Sharon Arungu-Olende
Head of East Africa
Sharon Arungu-Olende
Sharon grew up in New York, but has been based in Kenya for the past 9 years where she has worked for several multinational banks including Barclays, Citibank and Standard Chartered. While working in banking, her primary focus had been both advising and providing Trade Finance Solutions to multinational and large local corporate clients. She recently switched gears to extend her expertise to develop and provide solutions to SME clients and is especially excited about how creating efficiencies through technology can pave the way to providing access to finance to previously ignored market segments.

Sharon is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, where she studied Geography and Environmental Studies and holds an MSc from City University Business School in London in Trade, Transportation & Finance
Arjun Batra

Arjun Batra
Prior to joining Lendable, Arjun worked for BlackRock, where he led strategic initiatives focused on helping the firm transition into a digital investment landscape. This included initiatives ranging from electronic bond trading for institutional money managers to online financial advice for retail investors. Prior to BlackRock, Arjun worked on M&A and restructuring assignments at Houlihan Lokey.

Arjun graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Finance. He grew up in India and Nigeria, where he witnessed the extreme conditions in which most people live. He is passionate about using technology and finance to empower low-income individuals.
Joe Brew

Joe Brew
Joe is a data scientist with a background in public health. Joe has worked with the Tigray Regional Health Bureau (Ethiopia), Promotion et Developpement Humain (Togo), Florida Department of Health, Chicago Department of Public Health, Analyst Institute (D.C.), Agencia de Salut Publica de Barcelona (Spain), and Kobenhavns Skolesundhed (Denmark). In addition to his PhD studies (Health Economics, University of Barcelona), he holds an MPH from the Universities of Copenhagen and Granada, and an MA from the Institut Catholique de Paris.

Joe is passionate about international development and excited about working with an awesome team on the task of expanding the market for financial products in the developing world.
Sam Eyob

Sam Eyob
Prior to Lendable, Sam was based in Nairobi, Kenya where he worked at I-DEV International, a boutique investment advisory firm. There he provided investment advisory and growth strategy services to SMEs throughout Sub Saharan Africa. Prior to that, Sam was based in London and worked at Goldman Sachs. There Sam was responsible for the origination, management, and optimization of the firm's investment grade and high yield lending portfolio. Secondary to that, he was additionally responsible for a range of global hedge and mutual fund clients' vanilla and structured trades. Sam holds a BA in Economics from the University of Maryland.

Sam is passionate about driving economic growth in Sub Saharan Africa, helping to provide access to products that better people's livelihoods, and leveraging finance to develop the continent.
Dylan Fried

Dylan Fried
Prior to founding Lendable, Dylan was the lead data scientist at Local Projects and has done work with WIRED Magazine, the National 9/11 Museum, and the San Jose Tech Museum. His work focuses on building scalable machine learning architectures for a variety of applications. Before that, Dylan was one of the first technical employees at several companies, including the peer-to-peer ridesharing startup, Lyft. Dylan studied computer science at Brown University.

Dylan is passionate about improving the tools of data science and utilizing them to effect change in the world.
Daniel Goldfarb

Daniel Goldfarb
Prior to founding Lendable, Daniel was partner at Greenstart, a seed stage venture capital firm in San Francisco, where his investment focus was on the intersection of data, finance, and energy. Before Greenstart he was the program director at Americans for Energy Leadership, where he led market analysis and research on solar energy for the developing world.

Daniel wakes up every day excited to steer the international finance machine towards doing good.
Fiona Hill-Samuel

Fiona Hill-Samuel
Fiona has over fifteen years international finance experience having worked for Citigroup, Lehman Bros and Westdeutsche Landesbank in both London and New York. Before joining Lendable she was a business unit manager for the global structured products desk at Citigroup where she worked for 12 years. Fiona has extensive knowledge of business management, in-business risk & control, operations, and settlements.

Fiona is passionate about international development and reducing poverty through financial investment. Fiona holds a MSc in Global Politics and a BA(hons) in Ancient History from London University. She is FINRA Series 7, 63 and 79 licensed.
Kate Kimani

Kate Kimani
Kate is a software engineer whose main interest is applying technology solutions to meet business needs. She has 5 years experience working in leading technology companies in Kenya (Cellulant & M-KOPA). She is experienced working in roles which connect business and technology teams. She studied software engineering at Kenyatta University and being passionate about entrepreneurship, spent a year training at MEST, an incubation program for African software entrepreneurs based in Ghana.

Kate's passion is in social justice and sustainability and she is excited to work with Lendable to build technology that allows the many low to middle income people in Africa access financing at scale. She is a volunteer mentor for young high school girls with various local organizations and runs half marathons for good causes.
Jeevika Makani

Jeevika Makani
Prior to joining Lendable, Jeevika was at the Australian Energy Regulator where she worked on setting revenue allowances for the electricity metering services provided by network businesses. Before that, she worked for ruby cha cha, doing both qualitative and quantitative market research for clients such as Vodafone and Pfizer. Jeevika studied economics at the University of Melbourne. Her honours thesis compared market outcomes between for-profit and social businesses.

She loves exploring different countries and has lived in Australia, Taiwan, Singapore and Kenya. She is passionate about using markets to alleviate poverty in developing countries.
Jim Savage

Jim Savage
Jim is a data scientist, econometrician, and empirical finance geek. Most recently, he worked at the Grattan Institute, where he worked on policy design to help improve efficiency in Australia's retirement income savings system. Before that, he worked in the Australian Treasury's Macroeconometric Modelling Unit, working extensively on carbon pricing in Australia. In 2014, he was a fellow at the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Data Science for Social Good summer fellowship, at the University of Chicago.
Caroline Wanjiku

Caroline Wanjiku
Caroline works closely with the Originator Success Manager on all originator facing activities including: creation of price estimates, information collection for the verification process, and collation and preparation of data for financial analysis. She also provides administrative support to the Lendable team in East Africa, and handles special projects that may arise, including conducting research on industries, market size and originator opportunities.

Prior to Lendable, Caroline worked in the Ministry of Industrialization under the Anti-Counterfeit Agency, Kenya. She was responsible for conducting research activities, which included data collection, coding, analysis and high level report writing.

A first class honors graduate in Economics and Finance from Kenyatta University; Caroline is passionate about poverty alleviation in Africa by increasing financial inclusion to the people.
Mukewa Wekalao

Mukewa Wekalao
Mukewa is a FullStack software engineer with a strong focus on Financial and Insurance based products, mainly Information Systems and Core Banking platforms. He is a graduate from Strathmore University, Nairobi (BBIT) where he is currently pursuing a MSc in Information Systems Security; Encryption.

Before Lendable, he was a full-time freelancer at Upwork with interests in product development, mainly in terms of creating MVPs for startups on both Mobile and Web.

Mukewa has great interests in the scientific process behind building risk based information systems, working in a macro-finance big data setting and, generally, building and contributing to the team.
Chris Welhoelter

Chris Welhoelter
Chris is a software engineer with expertise in a broad range of languages and technologies. He is comfortable in both front-end and back-end environments and is enthusiastic about machine learning technologies and their applications in the real world. Prior to Lendable, Chris traveled extensively, living in Colorado, Tennessee, California and Cyprus, spending time in Western Europe and most of the United States. He graduated from Colgate University in 2011 where he focused on twentieth century analytic philosophy.

Chris is enormously excited to help architect a platform that will change the way finance is approached in the developing world.

Travis Gerke, Sc.D. is an assistant professor of epidemiology at the University of Florida. He was trained in biostatistics at Harvard University, where his interests in machine learning and computational statistics evolved into a line of research in cancer epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health. Most of Dr. Gerke's work interrogates high-dimensional data for genetic signatures that can predict the likely course of a patient's disease. Broadly, he enjoys staying at the cutting edge of methods for prediction modeling across a broad range of substantive applications.

Josh Green has served as a board member, lawyer and venture capitalist with 300+ startups during 35 years in Silicon Valley, including many legendary companies such as Yahoo! He was most recently a General Partner at Mohr Davidow with their cleantech practice, where he led investments at the intersection of cleantech and software. Josh has served on over 20 boards during that time, helped build two law firms to 120+ lawyers and served as Chairman of the National Venture Capital Association. He prides himself on being a true partner.
Michael Grossman

Michael Grossman
Michael Grossman is a foremost expert on debt investing in the developing world, having led investing at commercial banks and foundations. Michael is currently the Director of Liquid Assets at New Island Capital. He was previously at the Calvert Social Investment Foundation, Senior Advisor to McKinsey & Company's Social Sector Office, Senior Director for Africa and Senior Director for Financial Services at the Millennium Challenge Corporation, where he developed over $1.5 billion investment programs to support economic growth and poverty reduction in Madagascar, Mali, Benin and Morocco. Before that Michael was Managing Director and Citigroup Country Officer in Tunisia and Senegal where he was responsible for day-to-day management of Citibank's commercial and retail operations. Michael helped create Citibank's West African regional corporate finance/capital markets business based in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire. Michael holds an MS in Finance from MIT Sloan School of Management and a BS from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.

Christopher Trepel
Christopher Trepel, Ph.D., is an applied scientist and business executive whose work is focused on understanding, measuring, and predicting consumer financial behaviour. He is currently Group Chief Science Officer at GFKL-Lowell Group, where he leads the global Decision Science function in the UK and Germany. Chris is also an Operating Partner in Fenway Summer LLC's venture capital fund, contributing technical expertise in the areas of analytics, data, and credit. Chris previously served as Chief Scientific Officer at Encore Capital Group and also held roles at Wells Fargo Bank and McKinsey & Company.
